KPRC 2 Athlete of the Week: Cara Pittman, Dawson Softball

PEARLAND, Texas – This week’s KPRC 2 and UTMB Health Athlete of the week is senior Dawson softball play Cara Pittman.

Pittman is the ace pitcher for the Eagles, stepping in after Dawson graduated their pitcher from the previous season. In the new role, Pittman has 312 strikeouts on the season.

Pittman signed to play college softball at Houston Christian University, where she’ll play 3rd base and utility, a role she mainly filled before stepping into the circle this year.

According to coaches and teammates, Pittman is a leader and a coach on the field - helping coach Chelsea Boles run practices.

“The past two years that I’ve been here, she’s been voted by the team twice to be team captain.” said Boles. “So that, one and in of itself says a lot. Last year she did a lot of third base for us, and this year she’s stepped up (as a pitcher) a lot.”

“I just try to make myself and others better every day,” said Pittman. “I’m just bringing the energy to try and encourage other people to try their hardest.”

Pittman is leading Dawson to a strong season, as the Eagles check in at 19-6-1, and are 2nd in their district with a 9-2 record in district play.
